No More Yellowstone: Kevin Costner’s “Friction” Forces Season 5 to be the Last
Yellowstone, the hit neo-Western drama series that stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the owner of the largest ranch in Montana, might be coming to an end after Season 5. According to multiple sources, Costner is not happy with the show and has clashed with its creator, Taylor Sheridan, over creative differences and recognition. Costner’s possible departure has also led to rumors that Matthew McConaughey might replace him as the new lead, but those have been dismissed by McConaughey himself, who is working on his own show with Sheridan.
The fans of Yellowstone are anxiously waiting for the second half of Season 5 to air, after a midseason break that left them with a cliffhanger. The show has been a huge success for Paramount Network, attracting millions of viewers and winning a Golden Globe for Costner’s performance. However, the production of the show has been plagued by delays and disputes, and it is not clear when or if it will resume filming.
One source told The New York Post that there is “respect but there’s friction” between Costner and Sheridan, who are both powerful figures in Hollywood. Another source said that Sheridan is “the star of his show” and “the most important person on all of his shows”, implying that he does not appreciate Costner’s contribution. A third source said that Sheridan is keeping his stars in the dark about his plans for the show.
Costner’s attorney, Marty Singer, denied some of the allegations against his client, calling them “absolute lies”. He said that Costner is committed to the show and enjoys playing John Dutton. He also said that Costner is proud of the show’s success and its impact on the audience.
However, Singer did not confirm or deny whether Costner will return for the remaining episodes of Season 5 or beyond. Neither did Sheridan or Paramount Network. The only official statement from the network was that “Yellowstone remains one of our most important shows”.
If Costner does leave Yellowstone, it would be a huge blow for the show and its fans. Costner is the main attraction and the anchor of the show, and his character is at the center of all the conflicts and drama. It would be hard to imagine Yellowstone without him, or with another actor taking his place.
However, Yellowstone also has a strong ensemble cast of talented actors who can carry on the story without Costner. Moreover, Sheridan has proven himself as a masterful writer who can create compelling characters and plot twists. He might even surprise us with a new lead actor who can fill Costner’s shoes.
